Welcome to The Herb Diaries.
I started writing this blog a few months ago in an attempt to change to my diet, making it healthier and much more heavily plant-based. Having read and followed so many different food blogs for so long, the next step was obviously to start writing my own! I haven’t had any proper cooking training, and you can see that I am definitely a beginner at photography, but as it ties together my love of cooking and my growing interest in nutrition, this seemed like my ideal hobby.
I am absolutely not a vegan, and I am sure I never will be, but I have started to take much more notice of the food I eat, and the negative effect that people’s diet these days is having on their bodies. Having done a lot of reading and research, it is becoming more and more apparent that our bodies are best suited to a plant-based diet. By following this sort of diet, you can benefit from numerous health benefits, such as a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, no more asthma, migraines or indigestion, and lower cholesterol (to name just a few) and I hope you will be surprised at how delicious and satisfying the food can be.
It is important for people to realise that for the good of their health and the environment, we need to make a conscious effort to eat far less meat and dairy, but it is not just the animal products that are causing a problem. All the processed foods, full of sugar, refined white flour and other nasty additives like colouring and preservatives are just as bad – worse in many cases.
I am currently doing a nutrition course, which is so fascinating, and it is only convincing me more that we need to be aware of how what we eat is affecting our bodies. People completely underestimate the positive effects that only a small change in diet can make. This is a fairly recent change for me, and within a few weeks I felt lighter and more energetic than ever before.
